All about the David Gareja, Sighnaghi, Bodbe.

Davit Gareja – The cave monastery complex, founded in the 6th century, is located in a desert, on Georgia’s border with Azerbaijan. Apart from the caves, monasteries and monk cells cut in stone, one can see the terraced yard and the basin here.

Signagi – The city was founded in the 18th century, though residents have lived here a long time before this date. Here one can find the tools of Paleolithic, Neolithic and bronze eras. The town is surrounded by a cobblestone wall with six entrances. A panorama of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains can be observed from here. Over the centuries, there were trade and caravan routes that established it as a city of artisans and merchants. It is distinguished by the oldest beautiful narrow streets, pavements and open cafes.

 

Bodbe Monastery – built in the 4th century, near the Sighnaghi. There is spring water in 1 km away from the monastery that has healing capabilities.

  1. Day Trip David Gareja, Sighnaghi, Bodbe

    In this one day tour, we will have an opportunity to visit Kakheti, located in the eastern part of Georgia and explore some of the main spots, which are David Gareja, Sighnaghi and The Bodbe Monastery.

     

     At 10 a.m. we pick you up from your hotels and take the way to David Gareja. David Gareja – The cave monastery complex, founded in the 6th century, is located in a desert, on Georgia’s border with Azerbaijan. Apart from the caves, monasteries and monk cells cut in stone, one can see the terraced yard and the basin here. At 12 p.m. we arrive in the David Gareja Monastery complex, and here we have some time to overview this complex.  After visiting this historically significant place, we are going to continue our way to the marvelous town Sighnaghi. Sighnaghi is one of the smallest cities in Georgia, although it is distinguished with its unique architecture and beautiful streets. At 3 p.m. we will be in Sighnaghi, here we will have lunch from 3 to 4 p.m. and then we have sufficient time for sightseeing in this small, but magnificently beautiful city. Here we will visit Sighanaghi museum, which has excellent exhibits on Kakheti archeology and history, also here you can discover and walk around 4km defensive wall that was built in 18th century by King Erekle II, which remains here, consisting of 23 towers and 6 gates. We will also visit an impressive 16th-century church Gremi, located on the high elevation. Then, we have planned to visit the Bodbe Monastery that is 2 km from Sighnaghi. Bodbe Monastery is an Orthodox monastic complex built in the 9th century. The Bodbe Monastery is overlooking on the Alazany valley with a great view of the Great Caucasus Mountains. It will be the last spot of our tour, after that, we depart back to Tbilisi, to your hotels. The whole journey takes approximately 10-12 hours in total.
